Applications are invited from qualified individuals for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Drama in the College of Arts and Science at the University of Saskatchewan to begin July 1, 2019.
The successful candidate will serve as Coordinator of our wîcêhtowin Theatre Program (WTP), leading to a Certificate in Indigenous Theatre, and be active as an artist/scholar/educator in all aspects of the life and work of the department.

The oldest Drama Department in the British Commonwealth, it has an outstanding track record for community engagement, experiential learning, and a long-standing commitment to producing excellent graduates dedicated to celebrating, building, and transforming the theatre community. wîcêhtowin Theatre Program (WTP) is an innovative new certificate program launched in September, 2015, designed to strengthen the department’s interdisciplinary connections with other University units engaged in Indigenous educational, cultural, artistic outreach; enhance its already-strong community and professional partnerships; and enrich department programming on all levels.

The College of Arts and Science is the University’s largest college and home to more than 60 academic programs. We have had a department of Indigenous Studies since 1982 and have strong Aboriginal programs and high-achieving Aboriginal scholars in many of our departments. We are also home to more than 9,000 students, with over 1,000 Aboriginal students.
The successful candidate will hold a terminal degree in the field (typically an M.F.A. with a substantial record of professional experience in theatre and performance). The Coordinator will need teaching and theatrical experience, especially in embedding Indigenous performance, cultural, and story-telling methodologies and creative practice into university curricula. Administrative experience will be essential, including successful establishment of Indigenous theatrical initiatives, and a track record of liaison roles with Indigenous communities.
The candidate should be well-versed in the area of Indigenous/First Nations/First Peoples theatre, performance, production, and related studies, and one or more of the following: acting, directing, playwriting, film, devised theatre, design, technical theatre, and/or scholarly research and publication. Preference will be given to outstanding Indigenous candidates (including First Nations, Métis, and Inuit).
Salary Bands (July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017)
Assistant Professor: $93,293 to $112,109; Associate Professor: $112,109 to $130,925; and Professor $130,925 to $152,877. The position is anticipated to be at the Assistant Professor level.
