Theatre Research in Canada/Recherches théâtrales au Canada invites applications to the position of Managing Editor.
TRIC/RTAC is the only peer-reviewed journal published in both official languages devoted to the study of theatre and performance in Canada. The journal, established nearly four decades ago, has a long tradition of publishing the work of diverse theatre scholars from within and beyond the country. The Managing Editor, who reports to the journal’s Management Board, plays a key role in shaping the journal’s vision in the rapidly evolving landscape of academic publishing in Canada.
Specific duties of the Managing Editor:
- supervising the Editorial Assistants, who work out of the Centre for Drama, Theatre & Performance Studies
- tending to the technical aspects of the journal’s print and digital publication, including liaising with our publisher Coach House Press and facilitating updates to the website
- maintaining relationships with affiliated organizations, including the Canadian Association for Theatre Research, the Canadian Association of Learned Journals, the Erudit Consortium, and others
- working with the General Editor and Editorial Assistants to support new editorial or promotional initiatives
- preparing an annual budget for approval by the Management Board with the support of the Drama Centre’s Business Officer
- assist in preparing grant applications (including a SSHRC Aid to Scholarly Journals application in spring 2018)
The Managing Editor should possess excellent written and oral communication skills and be well-organized. Ideal candidates would be senior or recently graduated doctoral students. While most of the work can be done remotely online, some on-site duties make it important for the candidate to be based in Toronto. Students or recent alumni of the Drama Centre are preferred, given their familiarity with its administration, but applications are welcome from elsewhere.
The successful candidate would start immediately and continue through to March 2019. The weekly hourly commitment varies with the production cycle, but is typically 7-10 hours per week at flexible times. The total stipend for the position will be $10,000 for the 18 month term, paid in monthly installments.
