The Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a three-year Contractually Limited Term Appointment (CLTA) at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in the field of Performance and Technology. The expected start date of this appointment is July 1, 2020, ending on June 30, 2023.
Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter. We seek candidates with teaching interests at the intersections of theatre, performance, and emerging technologies that enhance our departmental strengths (https://www.cdtps.utoronto.ca). Practical experience with theatre and technology is desirable. Applicants must be committed to undergraduate and graduate education and demonstrate excellence in teaching and an interest in teaching-related scholarly activities that complement the focuses of our existing labs (BMO Lab for Creative Research in the Arts, Performance, Emerging Technologies and AI; Digital Dramaturgy Labsquared). Conceptual literacy and curiosity in the area of Machine Learning / AI would be an asset, as would technical facility with performance technologies. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, including specialized courses in their area of research as well as core courses in the undergraduate curriculum. They will also contribute to the ongoing development of our curriculum in emerging performance practices.
Evidence of excellence in teaching and pedagogical inquiry can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application including a strong teaching statement, sample syllabi, course materials, and teaching evaluations, as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
