The guests are  

Susan Bennett (University of Calgary), Julia Listengarten (University of Central Florida), Daphne P. Lei (University of California, Irvine), and Ramón H. Rivera-Servera (Northwestern University) 

Our guests will share their experience as editors of academic books and writers of manuscripts in Canada and internationally. They will talk about strategies of writing book proposals, selecting publishers and submitting manuscripts and revising and responding to peer-reviewers’ comments. Their brief presentations will be followed by a question period.    

This roundtable is the second in a series of three events on issues related to academic publishing. The third event – a panel and workshop on writing a conference proposal research application – is scheduled for April 19, 2021.

Nos invité·e·s partageront leur expérience en tant que rédacteurs et rédactrices d’ouvrages scientifiques au Canada ainsi qu’à l’étranger. Ils et elles parleront des stratégies de rédaction des manuscrites soumis, de la sélection des maisons du publiée, et de la soumission des livres, de même que de la révision et de la réponse aux commentaires des pairs procédant aux évaluations. Leurs brèves présentations seront suivies d’une période de questions.    

Cette table ronde est le deuxième événement sur des questions liées à la publication académique. Le troisième, une table ronde et un atelier sur la rédaction d’une proposition de recherche pour une conférence, est prévu le 19 avril.

Bios:

  • Susan Bennett has authored four books and edited/co-edited five more. Recent are two volumes from Methuen Drama—Theory for Theatre Studies: Sound, published in the series she edits with Kim Solga, and Ivo van Hove: From Shakespeare to David Bowie, co-edited with Sonia Massai. She has also published with Routledge, Palgrave Macmillan, Cambridge University Press and Playwrights Canada Press and regularly reviews book proposals for these publishers and others including the University of Michigan Press, McGill-Queens UP, University of Toronto Press and Oxford University Press. 
  • Julia Listengarten is Professor of Theatre, Artistic Director, and Head of Graduate Studies at University of Central Florida. Her books include Russian Tragifarce: Its Cultural and Political Roots, Modern American Playwriting: 2000-2009 (with Rosenthal), Theater of the Avant-Garde, 1950-2000 (with Knopf) and Playing with Theory in Theatre Practice (with Alrutz and Wood). She has contributed to theatre publications, co-edited the series Decades of Modern American Playwriting, and is editor of Stanislavski Studies
  • Daphne P. Lei is Professor of Drama, at the University of California, Irvine. She is internationally known for her scholarship on Chinese opera, Asian American theatre, intercultural, transnational and transpacific performance. She is the author of three monographs and an edited volume: Operatic China: Staging Chinese Identity across the Pacific (Palgrave Macmillan, 2006), Alternative Chinese Opera in the Age of Globalization: Performing Zero (Palgrave Macmillan, 2011), Uncrossing the Borders: Performing Chinese in Gendered (Trans)Nationalism (University of Michigan Press, 2019), and The Methuen Drama Handbook of Interculturalism and Performance (Bloomsbury, 2020), co-edited with Charlotte McIvor. She is the former president of American Society for Theatre Research (ASTR, 2015-2018). 
  • Ramón H. Rivera-Servera is chair and professor of performance studies at Northwestern University. He is an award-winning author and editor of books on Black, Latinx, and LGBTQI Studies and co-editor of the Triangulations Queer Performance Book Series at the University of Michigan Press. This summer, he will assume the deanship at the College of Fine Arts at The University of Texas at Austin.
