VACANCY: TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN DRAMATIC STUDIES

The Department of Theatre and Film at the University of Winnipeg (www.uwinnipeg.ca), invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will be required to teach dramatic history and criticism in the context of a practical program and to participate in the development of new curriculum priorities in this area to reflect current trends. Course subjects might include but are not limited to; Introduction to Theatre, Play Analysis, Theatre Aesthetics, Dramaturgy and Theatre History. Subject to budgetary approval, this appointment will be effective as early as July 1, 2018. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The ideal candidate will have an MFA in Dramaturgy or a PhD in Dramatic Studies (or equivalent), a demonstrated research or creative record related to dramatic studies and criticism, and experience teaching at the University level in the areas specified above. Professional activity in dramaturgy, and/or theatre making (directing, writing, collaborative approaches) will be considered. Teaching or professional activity in other areas of theatre or film and/or a background in online course delivery may be viewed as assets. The successful candidate must be a dynamic and innovative teacher who is dedicated to inspiring student interest in this vital subject area and encouraging success in a collaborative, rigorous and diverse theatre training program within an undergraduate, liberal arts education.

The University of Winnipeg has a vibrant Department of Theatre and Film which is fully engaged with the local professional communities. Our faculty complement consists of thirteen full-time members augmented with a number of guest instructors selected from the industry. Our department’s main commitment is to practical theatre and film making within in a liberal arts context and we offer dramatic studies approaches that enhance this activity. Both B.A. and B.A. (Hons) degrees are offered through a range of streams of theatre study and we are one of Canada’s largest undergraduate programs offering this range of study. Our graduates can be found working in every aspect of theatre and film in Canada and beyond.
