Each year, CATR recognizes the accomplishments of its members and others in our field with a number of scholarships and awards.
Nominations for the Richard Plant Award, the Jean-Cléo Godin Award, the Ann Saddlemyer Award and the O’Neill Award will be determined by individual committees. These committees have been tasked with surveying a wide range of publications throughout the year, with each committee focusing on the appropriate language publications for each award. However, nominations for these prizes are also welcomed from the full membership of CATR. The awards honour scholarly work of significant merit in any area of Canadian theatre research. The authors do not have to be members of the Association.
The deadline for all 2017 Scholarly Award Submissions is January 15, 2018. Nominations must include a brief letter (email) of support, but a seconder is not necessary. Members are also encouraged to consider self-nomination. Nominations for all awards should be sent directly to this year’s coordinator of Scholarly Awards, Dr. Roberta Barker.
Nominations are sought for the following awards:
- Richard Plant Award: Named in honour of the association’s co-founder, this award is given annually to the best English-language article on a Canadian theatre or performance topic.
- Jean-Cléo Godin Award: Given annually to the best scholarly article in French, this award honours scholarly work of significant merit in any area of Canadian theatre research.
- Ann Saddlemyer Award: Named in honour of the association’s co-founder, the Saddlemyer Award goes to the best book published in English or French in a given year. The winning book should normally be broadly on a Canadian topic, and should constitute a substantial contribution to Canadian Theatre and Performance Studies.
- Patrick O’Neill Award: The Patrick O’Neill Award is given each year to the best edited collection published in either English or French on a Canadian theatre and performance topic. The award is given in alternate years to a play anthology and an essay collection. For the 2017 award, essay collections published in 2016 or 2017 will be considered.

Prix d’excellence 2017 : les prix Richard Plant, Jean-Cléo Godin, Ann Saddlemyer et Patrick O’Neill
Lignes directrices et appel à nominations
Chaque année, l’ACRT reconnaît, par l’entremise d’un certain nombre de bourses et de prix, les réalisations de ses membres ainsi que d’autres personnes œuvrant dans notre domaine.
Les nominations pour les prix Richard Plant, Jean-Cléo Godin, Ann Saddlemyer et Patrick O’Neill seront déterminées par des comités de sélection différents. Ces comités ont pour tâche de passer en revue un large éventail de publications tout au long de l’année ; chaque comité se concentre sur la langue associée au prix dont il a la responsabilité. Cependant, les nominations à ces prix peuvent provenir de tous les membres de l’ACRT. Ces prix reconnaissent l’importance des travaux dans n’importe quel domaine de la recherche théâtrale au Canada. Les récipiendaires peuvent ne pas être membres de l’Association.
La date limite pour la nomination aux prix d’excellence 2017 est le 15 janvier 2018. Les nominations doivent inclure une brève lettre d’appui (sous forme de courriel) que personne d’autre n’a besoin d’appuyer. Les membres peuvent également proposer leurs propres travaux. Les nominations pour chaque prix devront être envoyées directement à la coordonnatrice des prix d’excellence, la professeure Roberta Barker.
Les nominations sont sollicitées pour les prix suivants :
- Prix Richard Plant : Nommé en l’honneur d’un des cofondateurs de l’Association, ce prix est remis chaque année au meilleur article de langue anglaise traitant de théâtre ou de performance au Canada.
- Prix Jean-Cléo Godin: Le prix récompense chaque année le meilleur article savant de langue française. Il honore le mérite d’un chercheur ainsi que ses travaux dans plusieurs domaines du théâtre au Canada.
- Prix Ann Saddlemyer : Le prix Ann Saddlemyer récompense chaque année le meilleur livre de langue anglaise ou française qui a été publié l’année précédente. Le livre gagnant devrait normalement porter largement sur un sujet canadien et devrait constituer une contribution substantielle aux études canadiennes sur le théâtre et la performance.
- Prix Patrick O’Neill : Le prix Patrick O’Neill récompense chaque année le meilleur ouvrage collectif, publié en français ou en anglais, traitant de théâtre ou de performance au Canada. Le prix est décerné en alternance à une anthologie de pièces et à un recueil d’essais. Pour le prix 2017, les recueils d’essais publiés en 2016 et en 2017 seront considérés.
